The role of equipment calibration

Calibration refers to a process of determination and establishment of relation between measured values by measurement standard, measuring instrument and quantity (according to the Law on Measurement, Law No. 04/2011/QH13).

Calibration is a tool to ensure the validity of test results and is mandatory for laboratories wishing to demonstrate appropriate competence as required by ISO/IEC 17025:2017.

The role of equipment calibration:

  • Ensure the reliability of the measuring device/equipment with the measurement results;
  • Ensure that measuring equipment operates in accordance with the requirements of industry, national and international quality standards;
  • Maintain the values of the standard system, as well as the system of measuring instruments in use, and their alignment with measurement standards to ensure the consistency and accuracy of the measurements;
  • Determine the error of the measuring instrument/equipment, thereby adjusting the measuring instrument/equipment to fit with the required measurements;
  • Determine the measurement uncertainty of the measuring instrument/equipment;
  • Failure detection or failure prediction, through which the user has a plan to repair the measuring instruments/devices;

When do we need to calibrate equipment

  • According to the recommendations of the equipment manufacturer;
  • According to the requirements of the applied analytical method;
  • When the measurement accuracy affects the validity of test results;
  • When a major repair of the equipment occurred;
  • When the equipment is transported to another location;
  • According to the requirements of standards applied to the laboratory, such as: TCVN ISO/IEC 17025; TCVN ISO/IEC 15189; TCVN ISO/IEC 17043…

Equipment calibration at National Institute for Food Control

The National Institute for Food Control (NIFC) provides services on equipment calibration included mass, temperature, physico-chemical, optical, and time-frequency ...

The Institute has registered the field of calibration activities according to the provisions of Decree No. 105/2016/ND-CP dated July 1, 2016 of the Government “Regulations on operating conditions of inspection and calibration organizations, testing measuring instruments and measuring standards” and was granted a certificate of registration of calibration activities by the Ministry of Science and Technology with registration No. ĐK 361.

NIFC calibration activities compliance with TCVN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements, and accredited by the Bureau of Accreditation (BoA) with the code VILAS 203.
