Food Science and Technology – the first Leaders course in Singapore

From December 19 – 23, 2022, the National Institute for Food Control (NIFC) collaborated with Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore successfully organized the training course on “Food Science and Technology” for Leaders in the field of food safety.  

Within the framework of cooperation between the National Institute for Food Control and Nanyang Polytechnic International in the Food Technology and Innovation Program to improve the capacity for officials performing food safety management, the Leaders course on Food Science and Technology was implemented from December 19 to 23, 2022 in Singapore. The training course had the participation of 23 participants from food safety management and testing agencies of Vietnam, including representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade; Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Food Safety Management Authority of Bac Ninh, Sub-departments of Food Safety and Hygiene of Hoa Binh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Quang Tri, Tay Ninh; and Institutes including the National Institute for Food Control, the National Institute of Nutrition, the Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang, the Institute of Public Health of Ho Chi Minh city.

The training course was held at the Nanyang Polytechnic International, under the Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore. Lectures focused on food safety management of the Singapore’s government, giving an overview of food technology and food safety management methods based on the standards and regulations. In addition, the strategies and initiatives in ensuring food security are given priority by the Singapore government in the global context of climate change and population explosion in the near future.

Furthermore, the training program also included a series of field trips to several food laboratories. Here, the participants visited the laboratories, shared analytical methods and standards applying in Singapore. Especially, the participants visited the laboratory of the Singapore Food Agency’s National Center for Food Science (NCFS) which is responsible for food analysis, research and development on food safety in Singapore.

The training course is an opportunity to exchange and learn about food safety management methods between Vietnam and Singapore, thereby promoting dialogue, enhancing mutual understanding, and helping Vietnam to face with today's challenges of food safety and food security.
